The Hedge Knight has found its stars.

HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff, which is set one hundred years prior to the fantasy drama’s first season, recently cast Peter Claffey in the lead role.

Claffey, a relative unknown who recently featured in 2022 Hulu comedy/horror Wreck, stars as Ser Duncan the Tall, a heroic, if hopelessly naïve, knight.

Meanwhile, Dexter Sol Ansell (The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes) has been cast as his loyal squire, Egg. Egg, as it happens, grows up to be the fearsome Aegon Targaryen, the first king of the Targaryen dynasty.

With the first Game Of Thrones spinoff prequel in House of the Dragon achieving widespread praise, HBO is looking into more Westeros-set series.

The working title for this one is A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, based on writer George R.R. Martin's stories about Dunk and Egg. These are The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight.

"The pilot script is already written, and I think it’s terrific,” Martin wrote on his website in April 2023. “It was written by Ira Parker, who is no stranger to Westeros. He was part of Ryan Condal’s writing staff for the first season of House Of The Dragon, and wrote the fourth episode of HOTD’s first season, ‘King Of The Narrow Sea.'"

The Hedge Knight release date is expected for late 2025 premier on Max. Meanwhile, the trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 promises war.
