Gonzaga's Michael Ajayi declares for NBA Draft, maintains college eligibility

WCC's leading scorer averaged 17.2 points per game as a junior at Pepperdine this season.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga wing Michael Ajayi has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, but is maintaining his college eligibility.

The 6'7" Ajayi transferred to Gonzaga on March 26th after a breakout season at Pepperdine this season.

Ajayi led the West Coast Conference in scoring at 17.2 points per game as a junior at Pepperdine, but entered the transfer portal following Lorenzo Romar's removal as head coach.

He began his college career at Pierce College for two years before transferring to Pepperdine.

The Kentwood High School product is projected to start for the Bulldogs next year alongside Ryan Nembhard, Nolan Hickman, Ben Gregg and Graham Ike should he decide to withdraw from the Draft.

Ajayi is following in the footsteps of former Zags Drew Timme, Anton Watson, Julian Strawther, Andrew Nembhard, Joel Ayayi, Corey Kispert and Killian Tillie, who all tested the NBA Draft waters before ultimately returning to school for one more season.

The deadline for early entry players to withdraw from the Draft and return to school is June 16th.
