Jewish leaders in Harrisburg aren't letting bomb threat shake their faith
AND THEY’RE NOT SHAKING THEIR FAITH. MCKENNA. YEAH. JERRY AND LAURIE ACROSS PHILADELPHIA. PITTSBURGH. AND HARRISBURG, MORE THAN TWO DOZEN SYNAGOGUES RECEIVED AN EMAIL AROUND 930 THIS MORNING CONTAINING A WRITTEN BOMB THREAT FROM AN ANONYMOUS ACCOUNT. AT ONE OF THOSE THAT RECEIVED A THREAT WAS TEMPLE OHEB SHALOM IN NORTH FRONT STREET AND HARRISBURG. NOW, A CITY SPOKESPERSON TELLS NEWS EIGHT THAT A BOMB SNIFFING POLICE K-9 CHECKED THE SYNAGOGUE BUT DID NOT FIND ANY EXPLOSIVES. OTHER SYNAGOGUES IN HARRISBURG WERE CHECKED AS A PRECAUTION AT THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF GREATER HARRISBURG. ALL PRECAUTIONS ARE IN PLACE AND HAVE BEEN FOR QUITE A WHILE. ACCORDING TO THE FEDERATION’S PRESIDENT AND CEO. WE’RE ALREADY A LITTLE ON EDGE BECAUSE OUR HOLIDAYS ARE COMING UP, AND THAT’S WHEN WE’LL BE HAVING, YOU KNOW, FESTIVITIES IN SYNAGOGUES IN OUR HOMES. AND SO THE LAST THING WE WANT TO BE THINKING ABOUT IS THESE TYPES OF THREATS. WE ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BE VIGILANT, BUT WE’RE NOT GOING TO LET THESE THINGS DISRUPT OUR DAILY LIFE, BECAUSE THAT’S WHEN THEY WIN. THAT’S WHEN THEY SUCCEED. Jewish leaders are speaking out after anonymous bomb threats were emailed to 25 synagogues across Pennsylvania, including one in Harrisburg.A bomb-sniffing dog found no explosives at Temple Ohev Sholom on North Front Street, according to a city spokesperson.At the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg, all precautions are in place — and have been for quite a while, according to the federation's president and CEO."We're already a little on edge because our holidays are coming up and that's when we'll be having festivities and synagogues in our homes and so the last thing we want to be thinking about are these types of threats," David Cohen said. "We absolutely need to be vigilant, but we're not going to let these things disrupt our daily life because that's when they win. That's when they succeed."City officials said they couldn't discuss what exactly was in the emailed threat but stressed that police determined the threat was not credible.
