U.S. Postal Service could raise the price of stamps this summer

The U.S. Postal Service filed notice this week of its intent to hike the price of stamps this summer as it seeks financial stability.

The postal service intends to raise the price of a single First-Class Mail Forever stamp by 5 cents, from 68 cents to 73 cents. In all, the proposed price increases would amount to a 7.8% increase across the board for postal service products.

Included in the increase are: metered letters, domestic and international postcards, and international letters, according to the postal service. The postal service is also seeking to increase the price of such Special Services products as Certified Mail and money order fees.
