Last week Temoc Zamora competed on the biggest stage he ever had in track & field.

The Veterans Memorial junior ran at the Texas Relays in Austin, breaking 15 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. and taking a huge surge of momentum into the District 29-5A track meet at Cabaniss Multipurpose Stadium.

"That definitely helped me a lot," Zamora said after a standout performance Thursday at the district meet. "The Texas Relays was the biggest meet I had ever been to up to this point in my career. Being in that environment really showed me a lot.

"I know I can be just as fast as people in Dallas and the Houston area and I can compete."

He carried the momentum into Wednesday, where he doubled in the 110 and 300 hurdles, winning his first two individual district titles of his career.

Zamora clocked 14.58 in the 110s and 40.01 in the 300 hurdles, boosted by a tailwind on the home stretch. Last season Zamora finished fifth at the Region IV-5A meet and he is aiming higher.

"It feels special, especially because last year I didn't make it out in 300," Zamora said. "I'm truly pushing myself this year and getting the times I need to go far. The goal for the 110s is to aim for state, and the 300s I want to see how well I can do at regionals."
