BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Edgehill at Southtown is a multi-use development currently being built near St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham. The development will house apartments, retail and office space within walking distance of downtown.

The development broke ground in April of 2023. Right now, two buildings are under construction - the family building and the senior facility. The family building is ahead of schedule and around 70% completed. Southtown families are expected to be able to move in this October.

The senior facility will be completed in the spring of 2025. James Hawkins is the project manager for Edgehill at Southtown. He said once the affordable housing is complete, they will start working on the mixed-use facilities on one of the other blocks.

“Seeing the excitement of the residents every day when I go on the job site. To see that it is finally here, and how they are preparing themselves to move into their new homes and have a chance to change the city of Birmingham. The aesthetics, the way it looks, and to provide a better quality of living, it’s exciting for me,” said Hawkins.

Hawkins said this project is years in the making. He said they are looking forward to adding to the Southtown history and bringing new amenities to its residents.
