After Tuesday’s polls closed, the words “She won, she won, she won,” came from different places in the crowd at Sinclair Social where Shirley Millwood’s friends and supporters learned she was to be Calhoun County’s next probate judge.

Millwood, 49, had been slightly behind opponent Jon Garlick after the polls closed. The totals between the two candidates stayed only about one to 1 1/2 percent apart until the very end when Millwood pulled ahead. She won by 52 votes or 1.4 percent. The completed but unofficial vote count was 1,763 for Millwood to 1,711 for Garlick.
