GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A 30-year-old man is at a local hospital recovering after he was struck by a train in Grand Rapids, authorities said.

Grand Rapids police and firefighters responded just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, to an area near Seward Avenue and Seventh Street NW. There, first responders found a man with a significant foot injury.

The man tried to beat a moving train by running across the tracks when he was struck, Grand Rapids Fire Lt. Bill Smith told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press.

The man’s foot was significantly injured, but the injury is not considered life-threatening. He was responsive at the scene and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
