Friends and family members greet Thomas Edward Jewell, a World War II veteran, near the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., last summer. Jewell, 98, was one of 25 New Mexico veterans who took part in the Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico visit to the capital city.

Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico is looking for World War II and Korean War veterans to sign up to take a free trip to Washington, D.C. in June. The flight has a waiting list of Vietnam War veterans wanting to go on the trip, Honor Flight spokeswoman Shirley Johnson said in an interview.

The nonprofit program, founded in New Mexico in 2013 by private citizens, offers military veterans from the World War II, Korea and Vietnam eras flights to Washington, D.C., as well as free room and meals so they can view the many memorials erected to honor their service.

The deadline for World War II and Korean War veterans to sign up for the trip is April 21. The trip takes place June 19-21.
