Two people were killed early Saturday on Interstate 80 in Omaha in a crash involving a suspected wrong-way drunken driver, according to authorities.
Omaha police responded to the crash on I-80 westbound near 24th Street at approximately 1:40 a.m., according to a press release from the Omaha Police Department.
According to investigation, a Ford Fusion westbound on I-80 was hit nearly head-on by a Kia Sportage driving eastbound in the westbound lanes, the release said.
A rear passenger of the Ford, 26-year-old Ross Lewis of Wilbur, was declared deceased at the scene, according to the release.
The driver of the Ford, who was an Uber driver, and two other passengers were taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the release said.
The driver, 30-year-old Kyle Arnold of Omaha, was declared deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to the release. The other rear passenger, 24-year-old Jessica Mutchler of Shenandoah, Iowa, was taken into surgery with life-threatening injuries. The front-seat passenger, 29-year-old Cole Lambrecht of Kearney, was treated for minor injures.

The driver of the Kia, 25-year-old Maison King of Oakland, is being treated for a fractured back, according to the release. Upon his release, officials plan to file charges against him of two counts of motor vehicle homicide while driving under the influence, the release said.
Arnold and Lambrecht were wearing their seat belts, while Lewis and Mutchler were not, the release said.
I-80 was closed following the crash and reopened at approximately 5:30 a.m.
