Warriors fall to Cumberland County

Mar. 14—After falling in the 12th Region title game last season, the Southwestern Warriors were eager to take the field to start off their 2024 campaign. They had to hit the road to do that on Tuesday, traveling to Cumberland County. Despite hanging with the Lady Panthers early, the offense of the Panthers proved to be too much for a young Southwestern squad as they fell 15-5 in six innings.

Brynn Troxell, Jordyn McDonald, Lexi Martin and Macie Gwin all had RBI's for the Warriors in the loss, with Troxell leading the way with two hits. Kylie Dalton, Hanah Ellis and Zoie Lowery each had a hit as well. Jayla Singleton earned the start, pitching for four innings and allowing eight earned runs with eight hits and striking out one. Cumberland County was led by freshman Kenzie Willen with four RBI's and one home run.

Southwestern falls to 0-1 and will travel to West Jessamine on Thursday before opening their home schedule with a game against Oneida, Tenn. on Friday.
