Police arrest Port Neches man suspected of hit-and-run

According to PNPD, the victim ultimately suffered fractures in his left femur and left lower leg, had multiple jaw fractures, and had several teeth knocked out.

PORT NECHES, Texas — On Sunday April, 14 Port Neches Police Department was called to the 2400 block of Earle Street, where a vehicle reportedly struck a pedestrian and then fled the scene.

Officers were able to find the victim, barely conscious, in the neighboring yard with a fractured leg and facial injuries.

After transporting the victim to the hospital, officers spoke to the neighbors in order to find out what had transpired.

According to PNPD, a white, four-door truck was traveling east on Earle when it suddenly whipped across the west bound lane.

The truck then careened off the road completely, barreling through several front yards before striking the victim who was taking out their trash at the time.

The truck then immediately sped away, traveling north on Magnolia according to neighbors.

According to a post on Facebook from PNPD, on Monday morning Captain Jesse Fournet was able to track down video of the the incident, and sent out still shots of the truck to the oncoming night shift.

Through these efforts, Officer Justin Porter of the aforementioned night shift was able to track down the suspected driver.

According to PNPD, Porter identified a vehicle that matched the trucks description and conducted a traffic stop.

After questioning the driver, Andrew Barnette, 34, of Port Neches, Porter reportedly determined that Barnette was the driver from the hit and run incident.

Barnette was arrested for traffic violations and his car was impounded, meanwhile detectives were called to the scene to further question Barnette who was later released.

According to PNPD, investigators continued to work and gather evidence this morning further solidifying the alleged case against Barnette.

Through these means, they were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Barnette on the felony charge of collision involving personal injury or death.

Officers working patrol were notified of the warrant and arrested Barnette at his place of business before transporting him to Jefferson County Correctional Facility and booking him.

According to PNPD, the victim ultimately suffered fractures in his left femur and left lower leg, had multiple jaw fractures, and had several teeth knocked out, but is currently in stable condition at the hospital.
