CPD: Girl, 5, dies after transported to the hospital with visible bruising

OAK PARK, Ill. — Chicago police are investigating the death of a 5-year-old girl who died from child abuse-related injuries.

Police said the girl was transported Sunday to West Suburban Hospital from the 900 block of North Lavergne in the city’s Austin neighborhood. Officers were called to the hospital around 1:30 p.m., following a report of child abuse.

Police say the girl, who had visible bruising to her facial area, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The medical examiner has since identified the victim as Lyric Jackson and has determined the manner of death to be a homicide.

Police have not provided details on how the child sustained the injuries and no arrests have been made.
