Electronic tracking device leads York police to bank robbery suspect
AND. YEAH. LORI, THE BANK ROBBERY HAPPENED RIGHT BEHIND ME AT THIS FULTON BANK BRANCH IN IN DOWNTOWN YORK. AND POLICE WERE ABLE TO USE AN ELECTRONIC TRACKING DEVICE TO TRACK A BANK ROBBER WHO MADE OFF WITH SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. IT’S BELIEVED THE DEVICE WAS HIDDEN IN THE LOOT. IT WAS CLOSE TO 230 ON MONDAY AFTERNOON WHEN POLICE SAY 31 YEAR OLD ANNETTE SANTOS ENTERED THE FULTON BANK BRANCH ON SOUTH GEORGE STREET IN DOWNTOWN YORK. IT IS LESS THAN A HALF BLOCK FROM YORK POLICE HEADQUARTERS. POLICE SAY SANTOS HANDED THE TELLER A THREATENING NOTE. THE NOTE SPECIFICALLY SAID, GIVE ME THE MONEY IN THE REGISTER OR I’M GOING TO SHOOT YOU. ACCORDING TO CHARGING DOCUMENTS, THE TELLER HANDED OVER MORE THAN $4,000 IN CASH. POLICE SAY ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THEY DETECTED THE SIGNAL FROM AN ELECTRONIC TRACKING DEVICE, WHICH WITNESSES TOLD POLICE SANTOS GOT INTO A WAITING CAR AND SOMEONE DROVE HER AWAY. AND WE’RE ABLE TO START TRACKING THE VEHICLE RIGHT AWAY. 5 OR 6 BLOCKS FROM THE BANK, POLICE PULLED OVER THE VEHICLE AND ARRESTED SANTOS. POLICE SAY SHE WAS TRYING TO DISCARD THE CLOTHING SHE WAS WEARING DURING THE ROBBERY, INCLUDING A SWEATSHIRT AND A MEDICAL MASK. SHE MADE VARIOUS STATEMENTS, UM, CONCERNING THE ROBBERY, ALL TRYING TO DISTANCE HERSELF FROM THE ACTUAL EVENTS. POLICE SAY THE TRACKING DEVICE WAS A BIG HELP IN MAKING THE ARREST, BUT THEY ALSO HAVE VIDEO AND MULTIPLE WITNESSES THAT THEY SAY CONNECT. SANTOS TO THE BANK ROBBERY. WE WERE ON HER RIGHT AWAY. AND THE CAMERAS AND EVERYTHING ELSE. I THINK WE WOULD HAVE JUST AS GOOD A CHANCE WITHOUT IT. NOW, DURING THE INVESTIGATION, YORK POLICE SAY THEY FOUND NO WEAPON ON SANTOS OR IN THE CAR. York police say an electronic tracking device led them to a bank robber. Annette Santos, 31, is in the York County Prison after she allegedly robbed the Fulton Bank on South George Street on Monday afternoon.According to court documents, Santos threatened a bank teller with a note that said, "Give me the money in the register, or I am going to shoot you."Santos made off with more than $4,000, police said.Almost immediately, police detected the signal from the tracking device.Witnesses reported Santos got into a waiting car and was driven away. Police tracked the car to a location about six blocks from the bank.Police arrested Santos and recovered the money. Police said they did not find a gun.While the tracking device was a big help, police said they also have video and multiple witnesses that connect Santos to the robbery."We were on her right away, and the cameras and everything else. I think we would have just as good a chance without it," Det. Sgt. Kyle Hower said.Santos is not cooperating with investigators, police said.The driver of the car is not believed to be an accomplice.
