Four people were displaced when a fire substantially damaged a rural Holmen home Saturday.
The Holmen Area Fire Department was dispatched at 5:42 p.m. to a residential fire at W6632 County Road T. Firefighters from the Onalaska and La Crosse fire departments were initially dispatched through mutual aid agreements. Farmington Volunteer and Galesville Area fire departments were requested for water tenders, a brush truck and additional staff.
The first unit from the Holmen Area Fire Department found a detached garage at the town of Holland property fully engulfed. Flames had already spread to the exterior of the nearby house.
According to the press release, the blaze was pushing inside the home on all three levels and into the roof system. An additional shed and a nearby brush pile also were fully engulfed, two small grass fires were close to the wood line, and damage to five large trees occurred due to the windy conditions.

Fire crews set up a rural water supply using tenders to shuttle water, while firefighters focused on stopping exterior damage to the house. The brush truck crew extinguished the shed, grass and tree fires. After the exterior was extinguished, crews attempted to put out the interior flames. Roof and floor failures within the house hampered their efforts.
The fire was declared under control at 10:46 p.m. Holmen firefigthers remained on scene extinguishing hot spots within the house and cleared the scene around 2:10 a.m. Sunday. Holmen firefighters responded back to the fire scene around 3 p.m. Sunday to extinguish a small part of the roof that reignited.
One firefighter was evaluated for injuries at the scene. Four residents were displaced. The fire is still under investigation.
