CLEVELAND, Ohio – Akron is a step closer to having a new police chief after the city announced that its deputy chief, Brian Harding, is its likely choice for the position.
In a statement, Mayor Shammas Malik’s office said the city will host two town hall meetings to give residents a chance to meet Harding, ask questions and learn more about the hiring process. Akron decided to hire its new police chief internally, a move that comes after the city first announced a nationwide search to replace its former chief, Steve Mylett, who retired last year.
