Man accused of killing Scott Co. deputy pleads guilty to separate charges in Kenton Co.
The man accused of killing a Scott County deputy last year during a traffic stop has pleaded guilty to separate charges in Kenton County.
On Monday, Kenton County commonwealth attorney Rob Sanders said Steven Sheangshang pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and persistent felony offender.
Sheangshang is also charged with the murder of Deputy Caleb Conley in Scott County, Kentucky, last May.
Conley was killed on May 22 during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Georgetown. Conley had been with the Scott County Sheriff's Department for four years. Prior to that, he served for eight years in the United States Army.
According to Sanders, a Fort Mitchell police detective recognized Sheangshang after his photo was widely circulated on social media following his arrest.
The detective obtained a warrant for Sheangshang's arrest the next day, charging him with second-degree burglary.
According to Sanders, Sheangshang faces 10 to 20 years in prison in Kenton County with no parole for at least 10 years.
He remains in the Bourbon County Detention Center while awaiting trial on charges in Scott, Fayette, and Bourbon counties.
