The family of a slain Grand Rapids woman said they are annoyed and shocked by former President Donald Trump's speech on immigration Tuesday.

Trump is being accused of politicizing the death of their family member, Ruby Garcia.

Her accused killer, Brandon Ortiz-Vite, a 25-year-old citizen of Mexico who illegally entered the United States, admitted to detectives that he shot Garcia multiple times during an argument before dumping her body on US-131, records show.

"Ruby's family is left grieving for this incredible young woman. They say she had the most contagious laughter and lit up a room and I have heard that from so many people, I spoke to some of her family," Trump said.

However following the speech Tuesday, Ruby's sister, Mavi Garcia, told WWMT that Trump did not speak to her family and provided the following response:

I was shocked. I wouldn't say angry, more like I was bothered about it. More annoyed than anything."

Trump went on to mention other high-profile cases involving immigrants charged with crimes, including the murder of Laken Riley, a nursing student in Georgia who was killed by a Venezuelan man.

"It's a border bloodbath that is destroying our country," Trump said. "It is a very bad thing that is happening and it is going to end when I take office."

Many Michigan voters are concerned about illegal border crossings and polls are now showing that Trump has an advantage over Biden when it comes to immigration issues.
