El Paso high school basketball players honored by THSCA

El Paso high school basketball was well represented by the Texas High School Coaches Association in the release of its Super Elite Teams.

On the boys side, Chapin's Brandon Hymes and Jayden Leverett earned spots on the Class 5A team. The two have led Chapin to back-to-back Region I-5A titles games.

Hymes was this year's El Paso Times' All-City MVP and Leverett was the Defensive MVP.

Chapin coach Rodney Lewis was named the Region 4 Coach of the Year on the boys side.

Burges' Jordyn Hernandez earned a spot on the Class 5A girls team after her stellar career, which included more than 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is headed to play college basketball at Texas A&M Kingsville.

UTEP signee KJ Thomas was named the MVP in Class 4A. The senior guard helped Canyon Randall reach the Final Four in the state playoffs.
