Two people are taken to the hospital after an attempted robbery led to shots fired at a park in Middletown, police said.
Middletown officials say the shooting occurred at 11:15 p.m. Sunday night in Douglass Park.
Police said the victims told officers they were at the park when two others came up to them and demanded money. According to the victim's statement, the suspects then started shooting, hitting the victims in the leg before running away.
Police said two people found with gunshot wounds were taken to Atrium Medical Center for further treatment.
WLWT's crews on scene saw a number of evidence markers - showing shell casings, a number of $10 bills and a bloody pair of shoes.
Authorities say a police K9 tracked officials to one of the weapons used in the shooting.
It was a scary situation for families in the neighborhood now fearing for their safety after the incident in a place where they often let their kids play.
"I thought it was firecrackers, you know, it was multiple 'pop pop pop,'" a resident explained. "So I went to my neighbor's door and my next door neighbor she said she heard someone yell out, 'He's bleeding out! He's bleeding out!' And she called the police."
The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information about this incident, please contact Detective Mynhier at 513-425-7720 or 513-425-7700.
