Man dies by suicide after shooting, manhunt

AURORA, Ill. — A woman is recovering and a man is dead on Monday afternoon after a shooting and manhunt in the western suburbs.

Aurora police say it all began after officers were called to the 700 block of Charles Street, just after 7:30 a.m., following reports of a disturbance inside a home in the area.

While officers were making their way to the scene, a 911 caller reported to authorities that there was a man inside the home with a gun.

Shortly after officers arrived on the scene, they heard a gunshot from inside the home. A 43-year-old woman then exited the home, telling officers that she had been shot.

The woman was turned over to first responders who took her to the hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.

More officers were called to the scene, in an effort to secure the perimeter, but police say as they were arriving, the man inside the home fled the scene in a vehicle, unbeknownst to authorities.

Members of the Aurora Special Response Team (SRT) were called to the scene and eventually entered the home, but no one was found inside.

Officers were then able to identify the vehicle that the man fled in and notified law enforcement agencies statewide.

Members of the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office later located the man’s vehicle around 10:30 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Cottage Road in Wilmington.

After deputies stopped the vehicle, authorities say the man emerged from the car and proceeded to take his own life.

According to officers, there is no threat to the community, as the incident appeared to be a domestic incident.
