The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the death of a Florida man shot inside a Harvey home early Friday morning.

Because of his age, authorities did not identify the teen who was booked second-degree murder, obstruction of justice and being a juvenile in possession of handgun, said Sgt. Brandon Veal, a spokesperson for the department.

The teen is accused of killing Angel Nieves, 31, of Pensacola.

The shooting was reported about 2:30 a.m. Friday at a residence in the 4100 block of Lac du Bay Drive, Veal said. Sheriff's Office deputies dispatched to the area found Nieves suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, according to authorities.

Nieves was taken University Medical Center in New Orleans where he was was pronounced dead a short time later, according to authorities.

The Sheriff's Office didn't release any other information about the case. It's not clear whether Nieves or the teen knew one another or what led to the shooting.
