Detroit Pistons Make Final Decision on 10-Day Signee

The Detroit Pistons are keeping Chimezie Metu for the rest of the 2023-2024 NBA Season.

As the Detroit Pistons deal with a flurry of injuries to close the year, they’ve made 10-day
signings to try and keep the roster whole. For the second time this year, a 10-day signee has
landed a contract for the remainder of the season.

The latest player to sign a 10-day with the Pistons was Chimezie Metu. On Saturday morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the young forward has inked a contract for the team’s final eight games.

Metu is a former second-round pick who has bounced around the league since getting drafted. Before landing in Detroit, he started the year with the Phoenix Suns. Metu averaged 5.0 PPG and 3.0 RPG across 37 games before getting waived.

Since signing with the Pistons, Metu has performed well. His best outing was against the New Orleans Pelicans last weekend. In 39 minutes of action, Metu posted a stat line of 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

Through his first six games with the Pistons, Metu is averaging 7.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2.2 APG and 1.3 SPG. Detroit has liked what they’ve seen from the 6-foot-9 forward so much that they
decided to keep him around.

Now, with a rest-of-season contract, Metu has about three weeks to showcase his skills for the rest of the league. Detroit has shut down multiple players, giving players like him an opportunity to play extended minutes. While it’s unlikely the Pistons retain him come the offseason, Metu can possibly play himself into a contract elsewhere come free agency.
