The Detroit Lions could be in need of a tight end soon.

Lions tight end Brock Wright signed a three-year, $12 million restricted free agent offer with the San Francisco 49ers on Friday.

The Lions gave Wright an original-round tender of $2.985 million as a restricted free agent in early March. The tender gives them five days to match any deal Wright signs with another team. Because Wright was an undrafted free agent, they do not get draft pick compensation if he leaves.

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright makes a catch against Green Bay Packers cornerback Carrington Valentine during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023.

Wright has been a key part of the Lions' running game the past three seasons as a block-first tight end. He started four games last season and caught 13 passes for 91 yards with two touchdowns before breaking his forearm in the Lions' divisional round playoff win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Lions return Sam LaPorta as their No. 1 tight end, James Mitchell as a backup and re-signed exclusive rights free agent Shane Zylstra this offseason, but would be in the market for another blocker at the position if they choose not to match the 49ers' offer.

The 49ers, who beat the Lions in the NFC championship game in January, return All-Pro tight end George Kittle, but lost backup Charlie Woerner to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.
