After the shooting, Megan was left unable to walk and had to have surgery to remove the bullet fragments.

It took a long time for Megan to heal her emotional trauma from it, as she chatted to the outlet about her mental health following the assault.

'A lot of people didn't treat me like I was human for a long time. I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me.'

Adding: 'As a Black woman, as a darker Black woman, I also feel like people expect me to take the punches, take the beating, take the lashings, and handle it with grace. But I'm human.'

Months after the assault, Megan said she began to cry before hitting the stage - and became depressed as she tried to heal mentally and physically from it.

'Before I went onstage, I would be crying half the time because I didn't want to [perform], but I also didn't want to upset my fans,' she said, adding that it was 'dark times.'

'I didn't want to get [out] from under the covers. I stayed in my room. i would not turn the lights on. I had blackout curtains. I didn't want to see the sun. I knew I wasn't myself. It took me a while to acknowledge that I was depressed. But once I started talking to a therapist, I was able to to be truthful with myself.'

Megan also told the outlet she ended relationships that didn't serve her and took her social media off her phone.

She began to focus on her health and herself, which changed her life: 'Working on myself made me get into working out because I needed to focus my energy somewhere else. I used working out to escape and to get happy,' she said.

Tory Lanez was sentenced in August 2023 to 10 years in prison on three gun felonies resulting from shooting her in the foot during their drunken argument in July 2020 after a party.

His 10 years of prison include six years for his first count of assault with a semi automatic firearm and a four year addition because it caused bodily harm to her.

His third charge of having a loaded firearm in the car led to two years of prison, which will run concurrently within the 10 years he is currently serving.

He pleaded not guilty on all charges.

After the sentencing, he immediately appealed and asked for bail - the bail request was rejected.

The July 12, 2020 shooting occurred after they attended a pool party together at Kylie Jenner's house.

During the trial, Megan recounted that night,  said that an argument ensued and Megan asked the driver to stop the car so she could get out.

In the car was Meghan, Tory, and her friend and assistant Kelsey Harris.

Meghan said that Tory yelled 'Dance b***h' and fired the gun five times at her, injuring her feet that ended up requiring surgery.

She said that he offered her and Kelsey a million dollars to stay quiet and not report the incident since he was on probation.

Meghan also said that he apologized later and said he was drunk at the time of the shooting.

Meghan has dealt with people questioning her experience and siding with Tory - since the shooting took place.

One of the biggest Tory supporters appears to be Drake, who called for his release from prison - in a social media post he shared in February 2024.

His questionable post comes after he rapped a lyric in his 2022 song Circo Loco with 21 Savage placing doubt in her story and even went as far as suggesting she lied.

He rapped: This b***h lie 'bout gettin' shot, but she still a stallion.'

Meghan hit back at Drake via her social media, slamming him and writing: 'Stop using my shooting for clout b***h a** ****-! Since when the f*** is it cool to joke [about] women getting shot!

'Ready to boycott bout shoes and clothes but dog pile on a Black woman when she [says] one of y’all homeboys abused her.'
