Readers respond: Open Oregon party primaries

Letters to the editor

Thank you for urging voters to register with a major party by April 30 in order to participate in choosing partisan candidates, (“Editorial: Join a major party, just for the primary,” April 10).

It is ironic that Oregon, which prides itself on voter convenience through automatic registration and voting by mail, disenfranchises more than one-third of registered voters in its taxpayer-funded partisan primary elections. Only 11 other states so blatantly discriminate against non-affiliated voters.
