Google has confirmed the closure of its Google Podcasts app starting April 2, following its initial announcement back in September 2023.
This decision adds another chapter to Google’s history of discontinuing projects. With over 500 million global downloads, the Podcasts app had garnered significant popularity.
In response to the shutdown, Google is directing users to transition to YouTube Music for their podcast needs. The move aims to consolidate podcast content into a single platform, offering enhanced features centered around community engagement, content discovery, and seamless switching between audio and video formats.
As with any transition, there may be hiccups along the way. Some podcasts might not immediately be available on YouTube Music, requiring users to resubscribe using the show’s RSS feed link. The transfer process is open until July 2024.
