Golf fans could not believe what they were seeing in Augusta Friday afternoon. At some point, Bryson DeChambeau walked into the frame of view of nearby cameras, randomly bearing a ginormous sign post. Immediately, there had to be so many questions. How did the sign post fall? Did the wind knock it over? Whose idea was it to carry it? Did Bryson volunteer as tribute for this? Where is he going? THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW.

The broadcast didn’t explain how this happened or how the golfer got involved. However, according to The New York Times photographer Doug Mills, DeChambeau pulled the sign post out of the ground and moved it after hitting some trees. Officials explained to him that this was not allowed, and it was replaced.
Nevertheless, the moment has produced some incredible memes. Here is how social media reacted:

Hate to seem like a pearl-clutcher, but this is despicable from Bryson, using the sign-switching trick you see on cartoons to try to get his opponents to go the wrong way pic.twitter.com/CfyURbnUFz

I didn’t realize Bryson DeChambeau was such a big Roman Empire guy. He loves old forms of punishment, I guess. pic.twitter.com/EKYULewVBm
