Neighbor arrested and charged in Watervliet stabbing

Watervliet, NY — A man has been charged in the Sunday death of 24-year-old Darrell Willetts in Watervliet- his neighbor.

The Watervliet Police Department arrested Martin Bassett, 24, in connection with the homicide of Willetts.

Around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, according to police, Bassett and Willetts were involved in a dispute that escalated, resulting in Willetts being fatally stabbed by Bassett. Willetts and Bassett were neighbors with Willetts residing on the 2nd floor of 514 6th St., and Bassett on the 1st floor.

Bassett is charged with felony first-degree Manslaughter, arraigned in Watervliet City Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
