During World War I, military saddles played a crucial role in equipping cavalry and artillery units.

Little is known about the specific history of the one on display in the WWI exhibit at the Museum of Veterans and Military History in Vilonia other than it is a calvary saddle referred to as a McClellan saddle. The man who gifted it several years ago didn’t know anything about it either. Perhaps, the evident wear and tear was from use in several battles.
