CANNON FALLS, Minn. (KTTC) – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) says a West Concord Police Officer was parked on Hwy 56 when a car “came up behind him and swerved towards him just missing hitting the side of the squad car,” in a release Monday morning about the incident.

The sheriff’s office goes on to say the officer then pulled out behind the vehicle when the vehicle made a U-turn after pulling into the Casey’s parking lot and “again aggressively drove towards the squad car.” The driver, a 48-year-old man from Cannon Falls, then turned north on Hwy 56.

When the officer turned on his overhead lights to pull the vehicle over, the vehicle “stopped in the roadway briefly, then put the vehicle in reverse and rammed the squad car’s front end” setting off the airbags and injuring the officer.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Owatonna Hospital for treatment, according to DCSO.

DCSO went on to say the suspect failed to stop for other deputies, resulting in the pursuit into rural Goodhue County. That’s when a Rice County Deputy used stop sticks on the road, which caused the right front tire of the suspect’s Ford Explorer to go flat.

The chase then went onto County 24 Blvd, where a Dodge County Deputy used stop sticks again successfully on the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect then stopped his car in the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital parking lot, where the hospital went into lockdown.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken over the investigation at the request of the Cannon Falls Police Department.
