LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln man accused of sexually assaulting a girl for years has taken a plea deal.

Christopher Hunt, 43, pled no contest to one count of attempted first-degree sexual assault of a child on Friday. Lancaster County Judge Lori Maret found him guilty on the charge.

Hunt was initially charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child after a 15-year-old girl told police she’d been assaulted on June 12, 2023.

Police said Hunt assaulted the girl on multiple occasions from the ages of 10 to 15 between 2017 and 2023. The last assault occurred on June 10, 2023, court records show.

Officers brought Hunt in for an interview on July 25. He was released afterwards, but police lost contact with him the next day. Hunt’s arrest affidavit shows that he stopped showing up to work, stopped talking to his family and turned off his phone.

His family would describe him as a recluse who once disappeared for five years after he was accused in a different case involving the sexual assault of a child, police wrote.

Hunt was later arrested on Nov. 6, 2023, and his bond was set at 10% of $1,000,000. Deputies think he had been living on the streets after an arrest warrant was issued.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said a retired LPD officer spotted Hunt reading on a park bench while going for a walk and called police. He was arrested without incident.
