2 dead from gunshot wounds in apparent murder-suicide in Springfield home

The Springfield Police Department says the "suspicious deaths" of two individuals who were found dead at a home near 70th Street and Jessica Drive in Springfield Sunday has been ruled a murder-suicide following an investigation.

Officers arrived on the scene just before 6:45 p.m. where they found evidence that two people had died from gunshot wounds, officials said.

The individuals were identified as a 48-year-old and her 9-year-old daughter.

After collecting physical evidence, video surveillance, and speaking with several witnesses, the Lane County Medical Examiner's Office has determined both the mother and her daughter died from gunshot wounds. The mother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while her daughter was a victim of homicide.

Two other family members who reside in the home were contacted and are actively assisting detectives with an investigation, according to the Springfield Police Department.
