The Cortland County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about skimmers, devices installed on card readers that collect card numbers.
On Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office investigated two instances of skimming devices -- one found on a terminal at Gregg's Supermarket in the Town of Marathon and one found on a terminal at Save-A-Lot in the Town of Cortlandville.
A skimmer was also previously found at the same Save-A-Lot store in July 2023.
The Sheriff's Office advises you to monitor your credit cards and banking information if you have checked out at these locations within the past week. If you have accrued any charges you believe to be fraudulent, please contact your bank to report the fraudulent charge(s).
If you think you've found a skimming device, report the incident immediately by calling either 911 or (607) 753-3311.
