AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Akron police officers on Wednesday night searched a facility along East Market Street, as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal gambling.

The raid happened just before 10:30 p.m. in the 200 block of East Market Street, according to a news release.

Investigators seized nearly two dozen gambling machines, two handguns, electronics and more than $7,000 in cash, according to the release.

It’s the latest in a series of illegal gambling busts around the city over the past year.

In June, a teen attempting to rob a suspected gambling house along Brown Street was shot, leading to the arrests of the spot’s manager and lessor.

Later that month, police recovered an AR-15-style rifle, handguns and drugs in a gambling raid along Kenmore Boulevard and charged three people.

Just last week, police seized many more gambling machines, cash, guns and drugs from a place just down the street on Kenmore Boulevard. Three people were charged.
