The Kenya National Highways Authority has closed Madogo - Hola (B89) Road.

The authority in a statement has said the road has been closed between Madogo Junction and Bura due to flooding occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains.

KeNHA said the heavy rains in the region have led to flood waters crossing the road at Dukanotu area, approximately five kilometres from Cheredende Centre.

This, it said, has resulted in extensive flooding covering a section of almost one kilometre on the Madogo - Bura road, posing significant risks to road users.

"KeNHA has therefore declared the affected road section unsafe and has consequently closed it until the flood waters recede and the damaged section is reinstated," it said.

The Authority said a contractor is currently on site, ready to address any the situation once the water subsides.

The authority has cautioned motorists to exercise caution and refrain from driving on flooded roads.

It has called for patience and cooperation as the teams on-site work tirelessly to restore the affected sections.

On Wednesday, the authority reopened Nairobi-Garissa Road.

The road was closed on Monday following flooding at Mororo area between Madogo and Tana River Bridge.

It was closed again on Tuesday due to flooding at Arer Area, between Bangaley and Madogo.

According to the authority, the flooding at Arer has damaged the road and the previous diversion route.

KeNHA announced through their official handle on Wednesday that the road had been reopened after initial repairs were completed.

The authority had closed the road due to flooding as a result of the ongoing rains which have occasioned rising water levels of Tana River.

The flooding at Mororo had compromised one lane of the road, posing a high safety risk to the road users.

Most parts of the country are currently experiencing enhanced rainfall with a high propensity to cause flash floods.

Authorities like the Red Cross and the Meteorological Department have advised residents in flood-prone areas to move to higher safer grounds to avert tragedy and loss of life.
