A Las Vegas man shot and killed his former daughter-in-law and her attorney — who was also her husband — before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Lt. Jason Johansson said the two victims, who weren’t identified by authorities, were gunned down around 10 a.m. Monday during a child custody hearing in a law office near Red Rock Casino.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill, also of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, said the shooter killed himself a short time later.

Sources told local CBS affiliate KLAS-TV that the victims were attorney Dennis Prince and Ashley Prince and the shooter was attorney Joe Houston II.

Mr. Houston was representing his son, Dylan Houston, during the child custody proceedings. Dylan Houston first filed for divorce from Mrs. Prince in 2021.

“We are deeply saddened by the devastating news of the passing of Dennis Prince, a distinguished attorney who was regarded as one of the finest in our state,” Tom Letizia, a friend of Mr. Prince and a political consultant, told the TV station. “Dennis was not only a close friend of mine but also a respected figure within our legal community, whose absence has left us all in mourning.”

Authorities didn’t share what led to the shooting, but said seven people were in the room when shots were fired.

The building was placed on a nearly daylong lockdown while police worked to secure the scene.

Mr. and Mrs. Prince recently had a child together.
