ST. LOUIS – A man who committed three carjackings in St. Louis City in 2021, one of which was fatal, was sentenced to federal prison on Tuesday.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Carmain Milton, 50, pleaded guilty in January to two counts of carjacking and one count of carjacking resulting in death.

The first carjacking took place on Sept. 21, 2021, in the 4500 block of Pershing Place in the Central West End. Milton stole a woman’s 1998 Toyota Camry.

One week later, Milton held up two people in a parking lot at the intersection of Chouteau Avenue and South Sarah Street in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood. He stole debit and credit cards, rings, an iPhone, and one of the victim’s Audi A6.

Later that morning, Milton carjacked a man in the 300 block of North Boyle Avenue in Central West End. Milton took the victim’s 2004 Honda Element and ran the man over. The victim, Chen-Hsyong Yang, later died of his injuries. He was 72.

Milton was arrested hours later, with a pellet gun in his possession and a wallet from the second carjacking.

A U.S. District Court judge sentenced Milton to 27 years in prison.
