UNDATED (AP) — Michigan has been given three years of probation, fined and hit with recruiting restrictions by the NCAA. The punishment stems from football coaches and staff having impermissible contact with recruits and players under coach Jim Harbaugh during the COVID-19 pandemic. The negotiated resolution was reached with five former and current coaches and staffers. The case is separate from an NCAA investigation into impermissible in-person scouting and sign stealing that roiled Michigan’s national championship season in 2023.
NEW YORK (AP) — Kate Martin came to the WNBA draft to support her Iowa teammate Caitlin Clark and ended up getting drafted by the Las Vegas Aces. Martin was selected 18th overall by the defending champions. Martin was among the 1,000 fans who were inside the Brooklyn Academy of Music, seated next to her former Iowa teammates Gabbie Marshall and Jada Gyamfi. As she heard her name called, she hugged Hawkeyes assistant coach Jan Jensen. She helped Iowa reach the NCAA title game for the second straight season and finished her career with 1,299 points, 756 rebounds and 473 assists.
UNDATED (AP) — Oregon State running back Damien Martinez, Miami running back Henry Parrish and Pitt defensive end Dayon Hayes entered the transfer portal as the 14-day spring window opened for college football players. Offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor was back in the portal and expected to return to Alabama after leaving the Crimson Tide and briefly transferring to Iowa following the retirement for coach Nick Saban. Martinez was the most high-profile player to make his intent to transfer official. The all-Pac-12 player publicly indicated he planned to enter the portal last week.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — UCLA is adding three players from the transfer portal to its men's basketball roster. Skyy Clark from Louisville, Eric Dailey Jr. from Oklahoma State and Kobe Johnson from crosstown rival USC will join the Bruins next season. Clark spent his freshman year at Illinois and his sophomore year at Louisville. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists over those seasons. Dailey averaged 9.3 points and 4.8 rebounds at Oklahoma State for one season. Johnson spent the last three years at USC, averaging 7.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
