It was a special day on Wednesday at Dearborn Divine Child High School, which held a special spring signing ceremony for student-athletes making their college choice official.

In total, six Falcons were the focal point of the festivities: Ethan Lewis, Lauren Thomas, Keegan Tripp, Olivia Velazquez, and sisters Kirsten and Meghan Koss.

Lewis will run cross country at Schoolcraft College. Thomas will take her talents to the lacrosse pitch at Siena Heights University. Tripp will hit the links for the University of Michigan-Dearborn golf team. And Velazquez and both Koss sisters will run track at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Kristen will also run cross country at UDM.

Lewis this past fall season earned all-area honors after placing ninth at the all-city meet and top-30 at regionals. He was a key fixture in helping lead the boys’ team for the Falcons to the MHSAA state finals for a third straight season.

Sticking with cross country, Kirsten Koss was among the top runners for a Divine Child girls’ team that qualified for states for the second time in three years and the seventh time since 2016. A top-10 finish at regionals and a top-2 placing at the city-wide meet earned Kristen all-area honors.

Meanwhile in track field, Kirsten along with sister Meghan as well as Olivia spearheaded a girls’ team for the school that took home a 12th straight regional championship in 2023.

Meghan was a two-time individual champion in both the 100m and 200m races while Kirsten took home the 400m title. Velazquez meanwhile qualified for states in the 100m, 4x100m, and 4x200m races, the latter of which she competed alongside Meghan Koss.

All three runners were also multiple time all-Catholic honorees in their high school careers.

Thomas has been a staple for a Divine Child girls’ lacrosse team that has won each of the last two Cardinal Division titles in the Catholic League. The Academic All-State honoree, who also played two years of basketball, is a key cog in what is a rebuilding year of sorts for a Falcons team that now plays in the Central Division of the CHSL.

Tripp is a three-sport athlete at DC, having played multiple years of both varsity football in the flall and varsity basketball in the spring. He was part of the boys’ golf team that qualified for the Division 2 state finals in 2022 following a third-place finish at regionals.
