"He's been here for ten years consistently one of the best players in the world and I look up to him a lot, so to beat him in another final is fantastic.

"I just love playing him to be honest, he shows a lot of respect and it was a great final. That's elite sport - sometimes it's your day and today was my day."

  • Taylor praises Littler

Phil Taylor has insisted that Luke Littler has the "perfect attitude" towards darts.

German Ricardo Pietreczko is among those to have raised questions over Littler's behaviour at the oche.

But 17-time world champion Taylor says he has come to directly the opposite conclusion.

He told Online Darts: “I’ve watched every game of Luke’s, the ones he has won and the ones he has lost. I’m impressed by him. He’s learning, it’s an apprenticeship, that’s what it is, and he is a great little player.

“I like his attitude towards the game, I like it because he’s got that little bit of needle when he gets beat. Some people call it cocky, some people call it arrogance, it’s not, it’s nothing to do with that.

“The lad knows his ability, he knows how good he is and he knows he can get better. Believe me, footballers have it, and if you haven’t got it, then you shouldn’t be playing the game.

"He’s got the perfect attitude, anybody that knocks him is an idiot, they don’t know what they are talking about. He’s a good lad, and he will do well."
