Rain returns to Metro Detroit, bringing wet start to the weekend

Friday highs in upper 50s; Saturday highs in lower 50s

Rain showers will move into Southeast Michigan tonight and exit during the morning commute tomorrow (Friday, April 19th). Friday's temperatures will be near normal with highs from the mid 50 to 60 degrees. (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – Cleanup continues in some parts of Metro Detroit after damaging storms on Wednesday, but the break from rain will be short-lived.

Rain will return to Southeast Michigan late Thursday from the west as a cold front sweeps across the area. Some communities, particularly west of I-275, could see a couple of showers during the evening. Otherwise, the bulk of the showers will get into Metro Detroit after midnight. Lows will be in the upper 40s to 50 degrees. Southeasterly winds will be 5 to 10 mph.

Friday

Showers will wind down during the Friday morning commute, clearing from west to east. Clouds will continue to decrease until skies are mostly sunny. Highs will be in the mid-50s in the Thumb to near 60 degrees in Detroit and Ann Arbor, which is typical of mid-April. Northwesterly winds will be 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.

On Friday night, it will remain breezy, with a few clouds developing. Winds will be 10 to 15 mph. Expect lows in the mid-30s to 40 degrees.

Saturday

Saturday, it will be noticeably cooler and breezy. Under a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures will only peak around 50 degrees. Westerly winds will be 10 to 15 mph, with gusts near 30 mph during the daytime. At night, chilly air will push lows to the mid-30s.

Sunday

A high-pressure system will dominate on Sunday, which means mostly sunny skies over Southeast Michigan. Temperatures will be in the mid-to-upper 50s, and lows will be in the lower to mid-30s.

Monday and Tuesday

Monday will be partly cloudy. Highs will be back to normal in the lower 60s, and lows will be in the mid-40s. As a system approaches, a few rain showers will be possible as early as late Monday night. Otherwise, plan on a rainy Tuesday with highs near 60 degrees and lows in the upper 30s.

Wednesday

The rain and the cloud cover will clear out for Wednesday. It will be partly cloudy, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the lower to mid-30s.

NLF Draft

The NFL draft will then kick off on Thursday in Downtown Detroit. The forecast puts high temperatures in the lower 50s for Thursday and milder weather for next Friday and Saturday.

The 30-year average high for this weekend in Metro Detroit is 61 degrees, while the average low is 41 degrees.
