Oklahoma Sooners set to host Louisville transfer defensive tackle for Spring Game

The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t been shy about wanting to add interior defensive line help this offseason. With Da'Jon Terry the only returning defensive tackle to play more than 100 snaps in 2023, the Sooners are in need of some depth.

They’ve already been in pursuit of Indiana transfer defensive tackle Philip Blidi, but another name has garnered attention from Brent Venables, Zac Alley, and Todd Bates, Louisville defensive tackle transfer Jermayne Lole.

According to a report from On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the Oklahoma Sooners will bring Lole in for this Saturday’s spring game.

Lole is an experienced player, having spent six seasons at the collegiate level. In his first three seasons at Arizona State, he recorded 122 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks in 27 appearances.

An elbow injury sidelined him for the entirety of the 2021 season, and he missed all of 2022 with a triceps tear.

In 2023 with the Louisville Cardinals, Lole played in 12 games and recorded 19 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. According to the Louisville Football website, Lole is 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds.

After gaining another year of eligibility due to injuries, Lole hopes to return to his early college career form. At one point, he was considered one of the best interior defensive line prospects in the nation before injuries set him back.

With the Sooners, he’d slot right into the nose tackle competition with Da’Jon Terry and Jayden Jackson and could provide some snaps at the other defensive tackle spot as well.

Given his experience and the Sooners’ overall lack of experience at defensive tackle, Jermayne Lole would be a tremendous fit in Zac Alley’s defense.
