Police officer accused of obstructing fellows during Easter Monday fight at horse track

By Aaron Humes: A police officer has been accused of stepping in while fellow officers were responding to a violent altercation at the Castleton Race Track, Burrell Boom, Belize District on Easter Monday.

The accused officer is Sergeant of Police Walton Banner, originally of Lemonal, Belize District. Members of the Special Patrol Unit (SPU) were attempting to subdue one Julian Reynolds after he allegedly attacked another person in the parking lot of the park and fired a warning shot.

Banner is accused of confronting the lead officer and aggressively cursing him, such that the officers were not able to authoritatively bring the situation under control. Banner was detained on Friday and charged today, Sunday, with obstructing police.  He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow, Monday.

The altercation is believed to be behind the fatal attack on Malcolm Reynolds, also of Lemonal, on Friday night.
