Members of the Friends of Lebanon Cemetery in York were joined by local volunteers Saturday to honor the memory of more than 300 veterans who are buried at the historic Black cemetery.The event commenced with a dedication ceremony for five new military headstones and continued with volunteers who focused on preservation activities such as cleaning and resetting headstones.The Lebanon Cemetery was founded in 1872 when local African-American citizens purchased the land to bury their families with dignity during a time of segregation. Lebanon Cemetery is the largest and one of the oldest African-American cemeteries in York County.
