UK residents with plans to head to Dubai are being urged to stay vigilant, following a fresh warning from the Foreign Office.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after Iranian military activity against Israel this past weekend. On Saturday, Iran launched an offensive attack launching over 300 drones and missiles, which lasted early into Sunday morning.

This has prompted a slew of warnings to surrounding countries by the government organisation which provides advice about risks of travel to help British nationals make informed decisions. As well as the popular holiday destination, the UAE also includes Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, and Fujairah.

British nationals with plans to visit any of these areas should continue to monitor news and FCDO updates for any changes to fast changing events. As well as the FCDO website, people can follow its affiliated social media accounts which also regularly share new information.

Other countries which have also been issued similar warnings include Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Oman and Lebanon.

In a statement update on Sunday, the FCDO said: "On April 13 2024 Iran carried out military action against Israel. Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast.

"Follow and contact FCDO travel on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can also get email notifications when this travel advice is updated."

On Saturday, April 13, Iran unleashed a series of drones and missiles towards Israel in what Iran calls Operation True Promise. Reports say this was a retaliation for a suspected Israeli attack on April 1 to the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, which killed 13 people.

According to Daniel Hagari, Israel’s chief military spokesman, the attack involved 120 ballistic missiles, 170 drones and more than 30 cruise missiles. While a small number of these reached the country, the majority of projectiles were intercepted before reaching the country's borders.
