A mother remains in the hospital five days after a deadly wrong-way crash. It happened in the middle of the night on Ronald Reagan Highway in Springfield Township Wednesday.
Victoria Morgan Story, who is known by friends and family as Morgan, is recovering at UC Medical Center after that violent crash.
The community is rallying around her as she begins to regain her strength.
"By time the police got there, the car was totally engulfed," Story's ex-husband, Richard Wimmer, said.
It happened around 1:20 a.m. last Wednesday. Springfield Township police officers were called to a report of a car going the wrong way. Police say that the vehicle hit Story's car head-on. Wimmer says she was heading home from work.
"Her car was the one that turned onto its side and combusted," Wimmer said.
Police identified the driver traveling the wrong way as 80-year-old Walter Johnson. He died at the scene.
Story survived and Wimmer says a good Samaritan pulled over to help and saved her life.
"If it wasn't for a man named Larry, who we found through Facebook, we would have been planning a funeral right now," Wimmer said. "She's still in a medically induced coma and she does have multiple surgeries ahead of her. Plus months if not a year longer of physical therapy after this."
Wimmer tells us it's been difficult for their children as their mother remains in the hospital, but he says she was born a fighter.
"She is going to get through this and we just need the help to keep her lights on, a roof over her head for when she gets back," Wimmer said.
So far, more than $4,000 has been raised for Story. If you would like to help, click here for the fundraiser.
