The importance of gut health is at the forefront of Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut. In the documentary, German doctor Giulia Enders is on a mission to show people that the digestive system plays an integral part in our overall health. Understanding the digestive system and what we put into our bodies could be the difference between thriving and declining.
Besides informing viewers about the ins and outs of the gut, Hack Your Health features an experiment that hopes to gain information about the stomach and how it relates to our well-being. Four humans submitted their poop to be studied for gut bacteria. Though it sounds kind of gross, studying fecal matter will help scientists determine what each person needs to do to improve their microbiome.
9. What Jennifer Did (2024)
On November 8, 2010, a violent murder disrupted the peaceful town of Unionville. A young woman named Jennifer Pan called 911 and reported a home invasion. According to Jennifer, three gunmen entered her house, tied her up, killed her mother, Bich Ha, and injured her father, Huei Hann. During the investigation, the police make a startling realization: Jennifer may have been involved in the crime.
The authorities discovered that Jennifer had lied to her parents about her accomplishments for fear of disappointing them before the crime. Initially, Jennifer is the only witness to the crime. After Huei Hann wakes up from a coma, his testimony changes everything. What Jennifer Did explores the events leading up to the murder and the eye-opening investigation that followed.
8. Anna (2019)
In the underrated 2019 action movie Anna, Anna Poliatova (Sasha Luss) is a beautiful girl who becomes a professional model in Paris. However, Anna lives a double life as an assassin for the KGB. Anna originally joined the KGB on an agreement to work for them for five years. After five years, Anna can start a new life. However, the KGB does not honor the pact and forces Anna to remain an assassin and work for senior KGB handler Olga (Helen Mirren).
When the CIA discovers Anna’s identity, they force her to work as a double agent under the guidance of Agent Leonard Miller (Cillian Murphy). If Anna helps the CIA, they will give her a new life. It’s a dangerous gamble, but one Anna takes in hopes of winning her freedom.
7. Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp (2024)
After being kicked out of the forest, Woody Woodpecker (Eric Bauza) needs to find a new home. He thinks the answer might be Camp Woo Hoo. However, trouble is on the horizon after Buzz Buzzard (Kevin Michael Richardson) tries to destroy the camp and rob a hidden treasure. Initially, Woody’s presence puts the camp’s residents in disarray.
Over time, however, Woody becomes an asset as he helps the campers prepare for the Wilderness Games. When he’s starting to settle in, an inspector (Tom Kenny) threatens to shut the camp down. It’s up to Woody to be on his best behavior and help save the camp.
6 . The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Thanks to NBCUniversal’s deal with Netflix, one of the biggest titles of 2023 – The Super Mario Bros. Movie – is available to stream. Based on the hit characters from the Nintendo games, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an origin story for Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day), two Italian-American brothers working as plumbers in Brooklyn, New York.
While fixing a water main leak, the two brothers are sent down the Warp Pipe into two kingdoms. Mario lands in the Mushroom Kingdom with Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), while Luigi appears in the Dark Lands ruled by Bowser (Jack Black). Featuring other notable characters like Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen), Mario sets out to find Luigi and save the world from Bowser’s reign.
5. Rust Creek (2019)
Sawyer Scott (Hermione Corfield) is unexpectedly in for the fight of her life in Rust Creek. Sawyer skips Thanksgiving to attend a job interview in Washington D.C. While traveling through the backwoods of Kentucky, Sawyer makes a wrong turn and spots two brothers, Hollister (Micah Hauptman) and Buck (Daniel R. Hill), burying a body.
Afraid that Sawyer may have seen their meth operation, the brothers track her down and try to kill her. Though they manage to injure her, Sawyer evades death and escapes into the woods. Alone and wounded, Sawyer must trust a random stranger (Jay Paulson) who has ties to the brothers if she wants to live.
4. King Richard (2021)
The inspiring story of Richard Williams and his quest to transform his daughters into tennis stars is dramatized in King Richard. Will Smith stars as Richard, a confident and hardworking man who believes his two daughters, Venus (Saniyya Sidney) and Serena (Demi Singleton), are destined for great things on the tennis court. Richard follows his 78-page playbook for success, training his daughters on the courts of Compton, California.
When the girls become teenagers, Richard convinces professional coaches to train his daughters, who are emerging superstars. Against all odds, Richard’s vision comes to life as Venus and Serena get their shot at tennis greatness. Smith has never been better as a dramatic actor, and his hard work paid off with a win for Best Actor at the 2022 Oscars.
3. Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017)
The little blue creatures are back in the third and final film of Sony’s Smurfs trilogy, Smurfs: The Lost Village. Smurfette (Demi Lovato) is the only female in the peaceful Smurf Village, causing her to feel left out. After being captured by the evil wizard Gargamel (Rainn Wilson), Smurfette discovers a special map to a mysterious village.
Smurfette manages to escape Gargamel and sets out to find this village with her best friends, Hefty (Joe Manganiello), Brainy (Danny Pudi), and Clumsy (Jack McBrayer). The four Smurfs travel through the Forbidden Forest and discover a secret lost village home to more female Smurfs. It’s up to the quartet to protect this village before Gargamel can find it.
2. Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
In December 2023, Zack Synder released the first film of his space opera franchise, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. The saga continues in Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, which is now streaming on Netflix. After the events of A Child of Fire, Kora (Sofia Boutella) and her team of revolutionaries return to Veldt after defeating Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein).
However, Noble survives the attack and makes his next play: to bring his dreadnought ship full of Imperium soldiers to Veldt and destroy the rebellion. Noble will arrive in Veldt in five days, meaning Kora does not have much time to prepare for battle. The world’s fate is in the hands of Kora and the freedom fighters. Win, and they will live freely, but lose, and the Motherworld will reign supreme.
