KANNUR: Congress leader and UDF candidate from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for not taking on BJP despite the Left's claims of waging an ideological battle against the party.
The former Congress chief was addressing an election convention organized by UDF in Kannur.

"The chief minister of Kerala claims that he is leading an ideological battle against BJP. But, I know BJP fights back if one ideologically attacks it. Chief ministers of two states are now in jail. But, Pinarayi Vijayan has not been questioned by ED, though corruption charges have been levelled against him," said Rahul. The Congress leader added that he lost his official residence, Lok Sabha membership when he ideologically attacked BJP and RSS. The enforcement directorate also questioned him for 55 hours, he said, adding that in Vijayan's case, this is not happening. That is why the Kerala CM is not criticizing BJP, alleged the Wayanad MP.
Rahul further said the upcoming Lok Sabha election, probably for the first time in the country's modern history, is about the Constitution and democratic structure of the nation.
"BJP is creating disharmony in the nation and trying to change the diversity of the country. No political party has done what BJP is trying in India today. The Constitution is modern India's foundation. The bureaucracy, the judiciary, the election commission, the CBI, ED, and other agencies are supposed to be protectors of the Constitution. But, by capturing these institutions and using ED and CBI as political tools, the BJP is trying to change the nature of our country," he alleged.
Rahul further said Congress accepts the diversity of the country. "We accept multiple languages, different histories. But, BJP wants to impose one history, one nation, one language on the people of India," he said. KPCC president and UDF candidates from Kannur and Kasaragod, K Sudhakaran, and Rajmohan Unnithan, respectively, KPCC election campaign committee chairman Ramesh Chennithala and other leaders also attended the convention.
