Although consistent high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s usually don’t arrive until May and June, we’ll experience an early season “heat wave” today, tomorrow, and Thursday and the typical April-like humidity is hanging around too! The humidity won’t really turn to decent rain chances until late Thursday afternoon, but there will be a chance for a few light showers this morning. Showers push from west-to-east across the area through the morning and midday hours with rain likely exiting early in the afternoon. Some folks may see rain, some may hear some thunder, but a vast majority of us may see nothing at all since rain chances are only near 30%. After the rain exits, clouds will stay in the place east of I-35 where temperatures will stay in the low 80s for highs. More peeks of sunshine near and west of I-35 will boost temperatures into the mid-to-upper 80s and could send the heat index near 90° for the western half of the area. Mostly cloudy skies will again “cap” high temperatures in the mid-80s Wednesday, but heat index values area wide may approach 90° yet again. By and large, the hottest and most humid day of the week will be Thursday as afternoon highs warm close to 90° with heat index values nearing the mid-90s in a few spots west of I-35.

Our next chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Thursday afternoon. Thursday’s rain chances are near 40% and some folks will not see rain, but the storms that could develop Thursday afternoon may tap into the heat and humidity to produce large hail and potentially some strong wind gusts too. Thursday’s afternoon storms may hang on through the early evening hours, but the storms should fizzle out before midnight. After Thursday’s rain ends, we’ll likely stay mostly dry on Friday thanks to a weak cold front passing through. Mostly cloudy skies will be joined by a 20% chance of a few light showers, but highs will likely still stay close to average in the upper 70s and low 80s. An even bigger push of colder air will arrive Saturday night as a big storm system passes through the country and sends us rain. The first part of the day Saturday should stay mostly dry but shower and storm chances return Saturday afternoon, especially Saturday night, and may still linger through Sunday morning. Rain chances climb to as high as 80% Saturday night. Although a few strong storms could be mixed in, Saturday’s storms will generally be sub-severe. What they lack in the severe weather department, they’ll likely make up for in the rain department as 1″ to 2″ of rain could potentially fall in some spots! Temperatures this weekend will also be cooler too. High temperatures Saturday will likely peak in the mid-to-upper 70s, but those temperatures may dip into the 60s and 70s Saturday afternoon as rain arrives from the north. After Sunday’s rain comes to a close, lingering clouds should keep Sunday’s highs in the mid-60s.
